Domestic Helper Salary-How to Consider the domestic Helper salary

By Alice Sy

The domestic helper salary should come first before anything else. Knowing that you have a budget to hire an employee is the go signal of your helper search. Knowing exactly how much you should pay for the maid is the next issue to rule out and they are determined by the following factors.

It should not go any less than the minimum wage declared by your state. The minimum wage per domestic worker is further determined by the nationality or the country of the maid. For example the Philippines sets the minimum wage of the Filipino maid to US$479.77 in Hong Kong and it is different for Indonesian and Malaysian maids also.

The amount of the domestic helper salary is influenced by the skills of the domestic helper. Usually, the better the skills or the more experienced, the better the pay. Sometimes though new maids who have the same skills can settle for the minimum and would just demand a higher pay along as their experience matures.

Of course whatever maid you choose to hire always bear in mind the tasks you will be assigning. You don't need to go higher with the helper salary if there will only be basic housekeeping tasks or you have a small to medium sized household. It's a different story if there's caretaking involved, there are lots of people at home or the place itself is like a mansion.

Whatever domestic helper salary you choose to award your helper, it should fit within your budget. Try to determine the maximum amount you can give or if you can only settle with the minimum only. Since it's your budget, it would have to be your call. What's important is that you can afford it with the specified contract and the maid approves it.
